Why this training

Pregnant students keep turning up in your classes.

Most of us were never taught how to teach them. We leave out a few poses, hope we're keeping her safe, and quietly wonder if we're getting it right.

Being a good teacher isn't the same as understanding pregnancy. Understanding pregnancy isn't the same as understanding birth. This training closes both gaps.

What makes it different

Three things most prenatal trainings leave out

one

Birth itself

You'll learn birth, not just pregnancy: the pelvis, the pelvic floor and how a baby descends and rotates through the pelvis, with active birth positions. Every posture you teach has a reason behind it.

two

The partner in the room

Drawn from the partner workshop Kate runs in Fremantle. You'll learn the nine partner postures and how to show a birth partner where their hands go, how to take her weight and how to support without taking over. Most birth preparation talks only to her. This teaches the pair.

three

The nervous system

Polyvagal theory, trauma-informed practice and holding space, learned in your own body first, so you can stay steady when a room gets intense.

Kate Nelson, prenatal yoga teacher and founder of YogaBirth

Your teacher

Kate Nelson

Kate has taught yoga for more than 25 years and has specialised in prenatal, birth and postnatal work for more than 20.

In Fremantle, Western Australia, she runs Active Birthing with Partners, where birth partners learn how to support a labouring woman, and she has run birth workshops there for over 20 years. Her teaching is person-centred, trauma-informed and practical. This training brings all of it into six days in Ubud.

"Pregnancy is not an illness. The women in your classes need a teacher who understands what their bodies are preparing for. Prepare the body and the mind will follow."

Kate

What you'll leave with

After six days, you'll be able to

  • Plan and teach a prenatal class for students in any trimester
  • Know what to change for a pregnant student, what to leave alone, and why
  • Explain what the pelvis and baby are doing in labour, and choose postures with that in mind
  • Know your scope of practice, and when to refer a student to her midwife, GP or obstetrician
  • Teach a birth partner positions and support they can use
  • Hold space for intensity and big feelings without rushing to fix them
  • Teach breath, sound and deep rest she can take into the birth room
  • Build a sustainable pregnancy yoga offer of your own
